Advanced English Program

The Swot Shop English Program cater for students with natural talent as well as for competent students wishing to improve.

Program information

  • Students attend classes once per week for 2 hours (Primary A, B and Secondary B, C) or 1 hour (Primary C)
  • Classes run on weekdays and weekends.
  • Students can enrol for a semester or a single term.
  • Each term runs for 10 weeks, a semester for 20 weeks.
  • There are no classes during school holidays.
  • Enrolment is possible during mid-term.

Program levels

  • Students progress from Primary C, B, A
  • Students progress from Secondary C, B

Advanced English Primary C concentrates on developing the students’ comprehension skills, vocabulary, grammar, oral and written communication skills.

Advanced English Primary B & A and Advanced English Secondary C provides a focus on reading for understanding, oral discussion of passages and the appreciation of literature as well as the development of written communication skills within a variety of genres. Emphasis is placed on improving vocabulary and language, using correct grammatical construction and developing creativity.

Advanced English Secondary B has a focus on both writing skills and comprehension. The writing component prepares students for the types of writing required in secondary school. It does this by extending vocabulary, improving writing style, developing essay writing techniques and by providing guided practice in learning to write creatively. The comprehension component develops advanced comprehension skills through the analysis of the works of impressive writers, poets and dramatists.

Entry requirements

To be admitted to the English Advanced program children sit an entry test. Students must have strong interest and skills in English to enjoy and benefit from the challenging nature of the course. Students must achieve strong academic entry test results across reading, comprehension and writing.
