Springboard Programme

The Springboard Programme provides challenging, interesting and stimulating activities to assist in the development of reading, writing, number and thinking skills.

The Programme operates at three levels:

  • Pre-School (in semester 2 only) for those students who are scheduled to start school the following year.
  • Kindergarten
  • Year 1

The Springboard Programme at all levels aims to:

  • increase literary and language skills.
  • improve mathematical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • enhance thinking skills in logic, strategy, memory and visual thinking.
  • foster an appreciation of learning and enquiry.
  • assist in the development of self-confidence, self-esteem and a positive attitude towards learning.
  • complement school and pre-school programmes.
  •

The classes are designed for bright, enthusiastic, motivated students. Entry to classes is not dependent upon a formal assessment of potential because such tests are not sufficiently accurate at this stage.

Teaching techniques use instruction, discussion, discovery and co-operative problem solving in a small group setting. Extensive use is made of hands-on materials and many activities are presented as puzzles and games.

Research has shown that the early development of thinking skills leads later to more rapid progress in the learning of reading, writing and maths.
