My Swot Shop – Information for Parents of Enrolled Students
When and how can my child do a make-up lesson?
If your child is unable to attend his/her normal class, then a make-up lesson is a good alternative. Use the timetable at the bottom of the page to determine the alternatives for attendance. Remember that The Swot Shop week begins on a Monday and ends on a Sunday so the make-up class must be attended in the same week as the normal class. Students are entitled to a total of three make-up lessons each semester for each enrolled class.
There is no need to phone to book one of these lessons! Just arrive in time to check the timetable for the appropriate classroom and the student should simply inform the teacher that he/she is there for a make-up lesson.
Are there Swot Shop lessons on public holidays?
We do not want one group of students missing their lessons because of a public holiday. With the exception of Christmas, Easter and public holidays which fall during school holidays, the lessons will be held. If this inconveniences those with activities on public holidays, a make-up lesson is advised.
Special events for Term 3
A group of invited primary students will come to The Swot Shop on August 5th to sit for the Australian Maths Competition. They will compete against Years 7 and 8 in a contest which attracts 400,000 mathematicians from Australian schools as well as others from forty additional countries.
Parents of students in our Springboard - Year 1 classes will be invited to talks given by our Principal in relation to educational issues of this age group as well as relevant Swot Shop procedures. The talks will be held in the week beginning August 9th and will co-incide with the student’s class time.
Friday 24th September is our Finals Night for Galileo students. The best from each class will compete in Chess, Public Speaking and General Knowledge Quiz. Invitations will be sent out in Week 8
Parents of students who are new to the Selective/Scholarship programme will receive an invitation to join us on Saturday July 31. Information about the Scholarship and Selective system will be provided as well as an opportunity to learn about the aims and procedures of these Swot Shop classes and the role of parents.
Assessments for Term 3
Those enrolled in Advanced English or Maths Talent will sit assessments as part of their lessons in Week 6 (week beginning August 23rd).
Springboard- Year 1 students will sit their tests in Week 7 (week beginning August 30th).
Results of these are scheduled to be posted to parents on September 8th.
Results of Book in a Day Competition
This competition was run at The Swot Shop during the July school holidays. Each day students were presented with a Scenario and were to write and word-process 1000+ words in addition to illustrations.
