Are your teachers qualified?
Not only do all our teachers have qualifications which would entitle them to employment in public or private schools but they must also have at least three years' classroom experience. They are chosen for their excellent communication skills, their enthusiasm for our ethos and their dedication to their profession. The Swot Shop provides opportunities for internal and external staff and personal development activities.

What sort of feedback will I get about my child?
Students in our exam preparation courses receive detailed statistical test reports almost every week. Maths and English classes complete assessments and/or competitions once each term with results being posted to parents. Parents of Galileo students are provided with information about their child's performance in the Science, Maths and English Competitions held annually. In addition to this formal reporting, teachers provide reports to Senior Staff in relation to students with performance, behavioural or emotional difficulties. Discussions with parents would then be initiated.

If personal circumstances require my child to withdraw during a term, will I get a refund?
Refunds are provided for the unused portion of a term's fees less an administrative fee equivalent to one week's tuition.

What if my child finds the work too difficult?
Class teachers and Senior Staff are constantly monitoring the performance and progress of each student and parents will be contacted if concerns are held. Students should expect to find their class activities more difficult than their work at school.

What equipment or books will I need to purchase for my child's class?
The Swot Shop provides students with folders, exercise books and copies of the material required for each lesson. Each classroom is fully equipped with pens, pencils and all required stationery. No additional fees are levied for books, equipment or competition entries.

What if my child is ill or unavailable on the day of the class?
Each child is provided with a "make-up" timetable. This details alternate session days and times for their programme and level. Students may attend a maximum of three"make-up" lessons each semester. If a child is not available to attend an alternate lesson in that same week, then the work will be posted to them if the office is notified.

How large are your classes?
Our Springboard classes operate with a maximum of 10 students; most others have 16 as a limit under the care of a single teacher. In certain circumstances, these numbers can increase by two or three if a teaching assistant is appointed to the class. These assistants are mostly ex-students of ours who are now in the senior years of a Selective High School or at University. They do not give the lesson but are available for students who require individual assistance.

What if my child finds the work too easy?
Students will often indicate that the work is too easy only because concepts and skills are being so well taught that the class members have no problems understanding or mastering the contents of the lesson. This does not mean that a child is not benefiting or gaining from the programme. Senior Staff constantly monitor student assessment results and reports from teachers in relation to students who may be ready for promotion. Parents, however, are welcome to request a review of their child's placement level.

How much homework is involved?
No student would be expected to average more than thirty minutes each week for any of our programmes.

Your programmes sound interesting. What do I do next?
All students in Grade 2 and above are required to sit for an entry assessment to determine suitability and/or level. These tests are held two or three times each term and the results which are sent to parents are valid for a period of three months. Students younger than Grade 2 may start at any time in any class which has vacancies.

What if my child is not successful on the entry assessment?
Because we accept that a single test may not produce an accurate picture of a child's ability, you would be eligible to return 12 months later for a re-test.

Why should we choose your organisation over another?
The Swot Shop is unique, does not aim to compete with other organisations and caters only to a clientele with specific needs. Our aim is not to provide a "quick fix" of school exam marks using a "death by worksheet" approach but to present extension and enrichment activities which exercise higher level thinking and are of long-term value. We are an extremely professional body with staff who are skilled in meeting the needs of intelligent students.
