Exam Preparation Courses

OC Classes
In New South Wales, Opportunity "C" (OC) classes are designed to provide intellectual stimulation and an educationally enriched environment for academically gifted and talented children in Grades 5 and 6. Entry to these classes is based primarily on an external examination which tests students' ability to answer difficult questions in comprehension, mathematics and reasoning skills.

The Selective High Schools
In the Sydney Metropolitan area, the Department of Education operates 26 High Schools designed fully or partially for high academic achievers. Entry to these schools is based primarily on an external examination which assesses students' reasoning abilities as well as their strength in written expression, comprehension and mathematics.

The Exam Preparation Course
The programme focuses specifically on the limited requirements of each examination. Emphasis in the classes leans towards exam technique, speed, accuracy, concentration and experience with multiple choice format as well as providing practice in typical questions and sample tests.

Only those students who, with the benefit of the course, would be expected to be successful at the examination are admitted to the programme. The classes consist mostly of our own long-term students who have chosen to take time-out to perfect their exam technique skills. Students who have not previously attended Swot Shop classes need to be extremely strong academically to qualify to be admitted solely to our Exam Preparation Programmes.

Entry To OC/Selective/Scholarship Training Programmes
The OC Placement Preparation classes will run from the middle of the first semester until the exam in August. All Swot Shop students who are in Grade 4 in 2004 will automatically be sent an invitation to join these classes.

The Selective/Scholarship Preparation classes will run from the middle of the first semester for those in Year 5 until the exam in March during Year 6.

All Swot Shop students who are in Grade 5 in 2004 will automatically be sent an invitation to sit an assessment in Term 2 which may enable them to gain entry to these classes.

For all these preparation classes, in keeping with normal Swot Shop policy, students will only be admitted if they are intellectually capable. This restriction does not exist in order to keep our success rate high. It is instituted because the company believes that it is improper to accept fees from parents unless a student is in a position to benefit from the course on offer. The policy is also strictly adhered to in order to protect the self-esteem of students.
